Job Requirements:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Process Engineer supports the manufacturing process from both an operational and technical stand point. Key focus on efficiency, continuous improvement and problem solving; leading and coaching problem solving through root cause analysis. Applicants must possess experience of manufacturing operations and be dynamic and self – motivated.
Process and Quality are areas of key focus for the business and it is therefore the responsibility of the Process Engineer, as with every member of the team, to ensure that all activities are undertaken in a safe and sustainable manner.
The Process Engineer will also be part of key growth projects working with the growth team and the site team to trial new products on site and support with technical development and commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:

As a Process Engineer in automotive manufacturing, you will be responsible for designing, developing and documenting processes for both new and existing production lines, including creation of Process Flow Diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures, FMEA’s, and Control Plans—to ensure consistent quality, safety, and efficiency.

You will specify, order, and manage production tooling and fixtures, monitoring tool life and performance, and ensuring tooling meets required tolerances and maintains process capability.

You will evaluate, select, procure, install, and commission new equipment, validating its performance and ensuring that it supports production targets.

Through continuous improvement activities, including layout optimization, lean manufacturing, cycle-time reduction, waste minimization, scrap reduction & problem-solving techniques to optimise OEE .

When launching new products (or new processes), you’ll work cross-functionally to plan and implement all activities from NPI / NPD, including process development, tooling, trials, SOPs, Control Plans, and ensuring readiness for production.

You’ll also lead problem-solving efforts when production issues arise—conducting root cause analyses, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and monitoring their effectiveness.

Lead role in Management of change assessing safety and process critical risks and mitigation; maintaining an up-to-date document management system.

Facilitate and coach the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective preventative action, recognized internal tools QK, BAT, 8D.

Throughout all tasks, you will maintain documentation, track key performance metrics (such as cycle time, scrap rate, throughput, tool life), and work closely with Quality, Design, Maintenance, Production, and Supply Chain teams to ensure that processes meet cost, quality, delivery, and safety standards.

Support and collaborate on wider global projects within Alkegen's Global Manufacturing.
Qualifications/ Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical / industrial / manufacturing / production engineering (or equivalent).

Experience (e.g. 3-7 years, adjust per seniority) in automotive or high volume manufacturing environment.

Strong understanding and experience with process documentation tools: PFD, Flow Charts, FMEA, Control Plan, SOPs etc.

Experience in tooling design / fixtures, vendor sourcing, tooling life evaluation.

Skills in equipment selection, commissioning & qualification.

Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma tools / continuous improvement methods.

Strong problem-solving capability, root cause analysis.

Good CAD skills (for tooling / layout), ability to interpret engineering drawings / tolerances (GD&T).

Data analysis skills: SPC, process capability, cycle time analysis.

Good project management: planning / scheduling / coordinating with multiple functions.

Good communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally.

Knowledge of safety, health, environmental standards relevant to manufacturing.

Able to work with minimal supervision, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and communicate effectively at all levels (Essential)

Familiar with a Global Organisational Structure (Desirable)

Experience in the manufacturing processes of non-woven needle punched fabrics, and secondary processes such as wet treatments and laminations (Desirable)
