Product Designer — Steel Sculptures & Decorative Metalwork (Remote)

100,000 PKR/month — Full Time — Remote

About Us

We're a US-based ecommerce company that designs and sells decorative metal sculptures and yard art. Our products are three-dimensional sculptures assembled from flat plasma-cut steel panels using slot-and-tab construction. Customers receive a flat-pack kit and assemble the sculpture themselves — no welding required. Think animals, nature scenes, decorative pieces — things people display in their gardens and homes.

We sell through our own website, Etsy, and eBay. We have a US-based fabrication shop with a CNC plasma table. You would be designing the products we sell.

What You'll Actually Do

Design original decorative sculptures from scratch as flat-pack slot-and-tab assemblies. This is NOT tracing, NOT converting existing 3D models into slices, and NOT architectural or mechanical drafting. You are creating the product — you decide what the panels look like, how they interlock, and how the finished sculpture reads from every angle.

A typical project: "Design a bear." You figure out how to turn a bear into 10-20 flat steel panels that slot together into a dimensional sculpture that looks great in someone's yard.

Day to day:

— Originate new sculpture designs from a brief (animal, theme, or concept)

— Engineer the slot-and-tab joinery so it assembles by hand with no tools or welding

— Produce production-ready DXF files for CNC plasma cutting

— Create assembly diagrams showing build sequence

— Iterate based on feedback from test cuts

— Occasional 2D work: privacy panels, wall art, garden screens

Hard Requirements

— Proficient in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or AutoCAD (must produce DXF output)

— You can look at a subject (an animal, a tree, a scene) and figure out how to decompose it into flat interlocking panels that build a 3D form. This is the core skill. If you've never done this, this role will be very difficult.

— You have artistic taste. Your designs need to look beautiful, not just function mechanically.

— DXF standards: files in inches, lines and arcs only (no splines), correct unit headers

— Reliable internet, available during overlap hours with US Central Time

— You deliver on time without being chased

Strong Signals (not required but will move you to the front)

— You've designed products that were actually fabricated — laser cut, plasma cut, CNC routed, waterjet

— You have a portfolio showing decorative, artistic, or consumer product design (not just engineering drawings)

— You understand kerf compensation, nesting, and material constraints

— You've done tab-and-slot, living hinge, or interlocking flat-pack design before

— You have an ArtStation, Behance, or portfolio link showing creative work

This Role Is NOT For You If

— Your background is architectural drafting, civil engineering drawings, or interior design renders

— You only do mechanical engineering assemblies (gears, housings, brackets) with no creative/artistic component

— You need step-by-step instructions for every design. We give you a concept and constraints — you design the product.

— You think "decompose a 3D model into cross-section slices" is the same thing as designing a flat-pack sculpture. It isn't. We tried that approach and it produces bad products.

Compensation

100,000 PKR/month. Paid monthly via Wise or direct bank transfer. This is a full-time position with long-term growth potential — we're building a catalog of 50+ products and need a designer who can own the pipeline.

How to Apply

Do NOT just submit your resume. Answer these three questions in your application (copy-paste applications without answers will be ignored):

1. Link to your portfolio, ArtStation, Behance, or 3-5 images of your best design work. If you don't have a link, attach images directly.

2. Have you ever designed something that was physically fabricated (cut, machined, printed, manufactured)? If yes, describe the project in 2-3 sentences — what was it, what material, what cutting/fabrication method?

3. If I asked you to design a flat-pack eagle sculpture from steel panels that a customer assembles at home — how would you approach it? Just 3-5 sentences on your thinking process. There's no wrong answer, I just want to see how you think.

Strong candidates will receive a paid test task (6,000 PKR) before a final offer is made.

Pay: Rs100,000.00 per month
