Essential Responsibilities:
- Manage physical and electronic inventories of shared lab materials, including chemical and consumables inventories.
- Execute lab safety activities under direction of the site safety officer and lab director, such as safety inspections, equipment testing, and scheduling safety training.
- Coordinate chemical waste storage in the lab and disposal with third party vendors.
- Manage the fulfillment of field trial requests, including vendor inventory management, securing appropriate documentation, request management, communication to stakeholders, and sample shipping.
- Manage general shipping and receiving activities.
- Manage vendor relationships, including scheduling annual maintenance and repair of general use equipment and infrastructure, identifying and establishing relationships with new vendors, and obtaining quotations.
- Lead purchasing activities for general use materials and equipment for lab and office, including identifying appropriate materials, obtaining quotations, and reconciling payments.
- Draft and review standard operating procedures, work instructions, and instrument guidelines.
- Assist scientists and technicians in greenhouse or lab research, including experimental set-up, data collection, plant care, documentation, and development of new methods.
- Supervise any interns, summer students or temporary employees, as needed.
- Other duties not listed above as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Ten years of work experience in a laboratory environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Crop science, Horticulture, Plant Physiology, Agronomy, Plant Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field
- Master’s degree in related field preferred
