The Drive Systems team is seeking a Product Engineer to take ownership of Tesla’s current and next-generation drive units. You’ll combine deep technical understanding with strong execution to improve performance, cost, and reliability across Tesla’s global fleet.
You’ll lead sustaining efforts for high-volume production, solving complex design and manufacturing challenges at scale. You’ll also play a key role in launching new programs driving design maturity, validating hardware, and ensuring readiness across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain.
This role sits at the intersection of design, validation, and production. You’ll collaborate with vehicle, power electronics, and manufacturing teams to deliver drive systems that push the limits of efficiency, durability, and scalability. Expect to move fast, tackle big challenges, and see your impact on every Tesla built.
Define and drive the industrialization of drive unit manufacturing processes across prototype, pilot and volume phases
Establish production testing specifications ensuring feasibility, scalability and alignment with long-term reliability goals
Act as first-line escalation for production concerns, supplier quality issues, and service feedback; coordinate with global teams for rapid resolution.
Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to perform DFx, PFMEA and PPAP activities optimizing design and manufacturing readiness
Drive continuous improvement through DFM, cost reduction and second sourcing while maintaining performance and reliability standards
Lead validation and durability testing to qualify design changes, supplier transitions and cost-down initiatives
Sustain production drive units through EBOM, CAD and change control management while resolving supplier, service and production issues
Develop and promote CAD, drawing and part management best practices while introducing new tools and processes to improve product and sustaining efficiency
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
5+ years in sustaining and launching complex electro-mechanical systems, ideally in EV powertrains
Experience with supplier validation, design change management and sustaining production
Strong understanding of CAD/PLM, GD&T, DFMEA/PFMEA, FEA and SPC
Expertise in CAD and drawing best practices; CATIA preferred
Organized, detail-oriented and skilled in cross-functional communication
