By leveraging the power of artificial intelligence, automation, and digital technologies, DT&I is helping drive meaningful improvements in clinical outcomes, reduce manual workload, and expand the reach of our care teams. If you're passionate about using technology to improve human life, this is where your work truly matters
The Safety Platform Product Owner is accountable for defining and delivering HCA’s Safety Platform vision, enabling a high reliability safety operating model through modern, connected capabilities.
This role begins by leading discovery and validation of a product vision for enterprise safety risk detection, shifting from isolated reporting toward an integrated approach that brings together signals across the organization to identify emerging risk earlier. In partnership with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders, the Product Owner defines the strategy, success measures, and roadmap needed to guide delivery.
Operating at the intersection of clinical operations, data science, and engineering, the Product Owner translates priorities and constraints into a clear backlog and execution plan that advances the future state of safety, including frictionless risk capture, effective follow up workflows, and proactive risk identification. By partnering with Engineering, Data, and Design leadership, this leader ensures the platform meets near term operational needs while building reusable, scalable capabilities that support reliable delivery and sustained business value.
What you will do in this role:
Product Vision and Strategy
-
Lead the development of an outcome-oriented product strategy, defining a vision for the Safety Platform and ecosystem tools that prioritizes measurable safety improvements over simple feature output
-
Define product strategy and roadmap, ensuring timely product features and updates delivery
-
Synthesize complex technical inputs (AI model capabilities, data provenance) and business requirements (clinical and operational) into clear, actionable product decisions that mitigate delivery risk
-
Manage dependencies with other teams’ functions while identifying, building and managing strategic partnerships across the different teams (including business and ITG) and ensure alignment across use case/data product roadmaps
- Oversee the development and implementation of the product, ensuring it adheres to the defined vision and goals, including the development of reusable, modular components (i.e., limited one-off or “tech-debt” code)
- Work with the Domain Leader to set aspirational and achievable Objectives and Key Results (OKRs); regularly adjust product strategy and pod direction based on OKR attainment
Backlog Management
-
Create and prioritize a product backlog that balances immediate operational benefits with long-term platform scalability
-
Ensure that product backlog aligns with business goals and progress towards sprint goals and quarterly targets / OKRs
-
Translate technical constraints into product decisions, ensuring features are built on robust, reusable architectures rather than one-off solutions
-
Coach the team on effective technical collaboration, including precise scoping and inspection discipline, to ensure high-quality delivery
-
Ensure user stories and requirements are clearly articulated, reflecting safety platform workflow needs, vendor ecosystem assessments, baseline metric requirements, and adoption activities
-
Work with the Tech Lead and other engineers to estimate the level of effort for each user story
-
Continuously refine and adjust the backlog to meet changing priorities and new insights
Stakeholder Collaboration
-
Engage with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders (e.g., Patient Safety and Quality, Hospital Operations, Nursing Informatics, Clinical Leadership, ITG, and vendors) to gather requirements, validate findings, and ensure alignment with the patient safety transformation strategy
-
Escalate and unblock any pod members' dependencies/needs. Facilitate communication between pod members and other teams or shared services
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all product-related queries and decisions
-
Act as a steady guide through the complexity of deploying AI in clinical settings, comfortable navigating ambiguity and competing priorities between clinical stakeholders and technical teams
-
Act as the “voice of the customer” within the pod to ensure the right thing is built
- Engage with clinical safety directors and frontline staff to validate that process-embedded tools reduce administrative burden, using strong influencing skills to drive adoption of new safety behaviors
Agile Process Participation
-
Participate in Sprint Planning and Retrospectives not just to track tasks, but to identify systemic risks and opportunities for improving delivery effectiveness and team velocity
-
Determine which user stories are completed in each sprint to achieve OKRs
-
Lead Sprint Planning, Sprint Demo, and Sprint Retrospective alongside the Scrum Master
-
Ensure product increments are delivered on time and meet the defined acceptance criteria
-
Track product performance and use data to inform decisions and future iterations
-
Define and track product performance using key indicators to challenge assumptions and elevate recommendations for future platform iterations
