A well-established manufacturer is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead shop-floor fabrication activities in a project-driven manufacturing environment. This individual will be responsible for driving daily production execution, workforce leadership, safety, quality, and schedule performance across structural steel fabrication processes.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing, understands the realities of project-based production, and has successfully led teams delivering complex fabricated assemblies on time and to specification.
Production & Shop Operations

Lead daily production activities across structural steel fabrication functions including cutting, fitting, welding, material handling, finishing, and shipping.

Execute production schedules to meet customer delivery dates while optimizing labor efficiency and throughput.

Identify and address production constraints, bottlenecks, and workflow interruptions.

Track and improve key performance metrics related to safety, productivity, rework, and on-time delivery.
Structural Steel Fabrication Leadership

Oversee fabrication of structural steel components and welded assemblies in accordance with shop drawings and project requirements.

Ensure accurate interpretation and execution of fabrication details, cut lists, and welding sequences.

Coordinate closely with detailing, quality, and engineering functions to resolve technical or production issues.

Support compliance with applicable welding procedures and quality standards.
Team Leadership & Workforce Development

Lead and develop supervisors, leads, and hourly fabrication personnel.

Establish clear expectations for performance, safety, and accountability.

Foster a culture of teamwork, engagement, and continuous improvement on the shop floor.

Support training and skill development initiatives for fabrication and welding teams.
Safety, Quality & Compliance

Enforce all safety policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to OSHA and company safety standards.

Promote proactive safety awareness and conduct routine shop floor audits.

Ensure quality standards are met throughout fabrication to minimize rework and non-conformance.

Support internal inspections and customer quality requirements.
Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve material flow, shop layout, production sequencing, and labor utilization.

Drive process improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and productivity.

Collaborate with maintenance to ensure equipment uptime and production readiness.
Qualifications
Required
-
5–10+ years of experience in a production, operations, or manufacturing leadership role in structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing.

Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes, including welding, fitting, cutting, and material handling.

Experience leading teams in a project-based, high-mix fabrication environment.

Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and shop details.

Proven people leadership skills with a hands-on, floor-focused approach.
Preferred
-
Prior experience in a structural steel fabrication shop serving commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

Familiarity with welding procedures, fabrication sequencing, and production planning systems.

Exposure to Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
