Production Manager - AV

Role Overview

The Production Manager – AV will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of audio-visual requirements for events and exhibitions. This role requires strong technical expertise in audio, video, lighting, LED, projection, and control systems, combined with the ability to manage vendors, technical crews, and budgets. The candidate will ensure seamless integration of AV technology into creative event concepts, delivering flawless productions that meet client expectations.

Key ResponsibilitiesAV Planning & Technical Management

  • Oversee end-to-end AV requirements, including audio systems, video projection, LED screens, lighting, playback, control systems, and special effects.
  • Conduct site visits and technical assessments to determine AV feasibility and specifications.
  • Prepare technical drawings, signal flow diagrams, and AV infrastructure layouts.
  • Collaborate with creative and content teams to align AV solutions with event concepts.
  • Ensure compatibility and synchronization across multiple AV systems.

Project Management

  • Develop detailed AV production schedules and resource allocation plans.
  • Supervise AV setup, testing, rehearsals, show operations, and dismantling.
  • Coordinate closely with infrastructure, rigging, power, and scenic teams to ensure smooth integration.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues on-site to ensure uninterrupted show delivery.

Vendor & Team Management

  • Liaise with AV suppliers, rental companies, and technical partners.
  • Manage subcontractors and in-house AV crew, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to timelines.
  • Negotiate with vendors for competitive pricing while ensuring quality equipment and service.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff/crew.

Budgeting & Reporting

  • Prepare AV cost estimates, BOQs, and budgets for projects.
  • Track AV-related expenses, ensuring delivery within budget.
  • Provide management with post-event reports including technical feedback, challenges, and recommendations.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure AV setups comply with safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Conduct safety briefings with technical crew and subcontractors.
  • Monitor rigging loads, cable management, and power distribution for compliance.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Electronics, Event Production, or related field.
  • 5–8 years of experience in AV production management for large-scale events and exhibitions.
  • Strong technical knowledge of audio, video, lighting, LED, projection mapping, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or similar design tools (preferred).
  • Hands-on knowledge of major AV brands (L-Acoustics, d&b, Meyer Sound, Barco, Christie, Resolume, Watchout, Disguise, MA Lighting, etc.).
  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
