Role Summary

Support daily production planning and control activities such that materials, travelers, and work orders are accurately released on time and align with customer requirements. A successful candidate will Partner with Contracts, Quality, Purchasing, and Management to keep jobs progressing on schedule to meet contractually defined Delivery Dates.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review incoming orders for accuracy and verify that all specified documents are provided or otherwise requested through Data Document Control (DDC)/Contracts.
  • Review Purchase Orders and all referenced Controlling Documents (drawings, specifications, coded notes, engineering reports, etc.) for work scope and customer requirements to ensure compliance via the production of our work package.
  • Identify potential conflicts, shortfalls, or gaps in estimates or capabilities that may risk job progress or negatively impact job cost or schedule and mitigate proactively.
  • Verify, update and/or create job specific Bill of Materials (BOMs) as needed.
  • Review and/or create and issue requisitions to Purchasing for job specific materials and services based on existing quotes.
  • Monitor purchase order lead times, as provided by Purchasing for vendor on time delivery or changes to such, once purchase orders are issued and provide continuous feedback to the shop manager as related to impact. Coordinate with Purchasing to drive improvement as needed.
  • Review or modify existing routings and Travelers as needed to align with production processes, adding in-process hold points and final inspections appropriately.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency in creating complete and accurate work packages to support shop production with appropriately planned material and workflows.
  • Track and facilitate improvements to job status, flag risks to schedule, and assist the Shop Manager with corrective actions (VIRs, etc.) to improve schedule conflicts.
  • Coordinate with Shop Management, Quality, Programming, Contracts, and Trades Personnel to efficiently process and deliver on-time quality products to our customers.
  • Capture lessons learned and update master part numbers/estimates as needed for future accuracy and process performance improvements.
  • Support Business Development via estimate reviews as requested

Required Qualifications

  • Machine shop background with an understanding of various CNC machine tool capabilities. Knowledge of 5 axis machining methodologies is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications with an understanding of GD&T
  • Basic understanding of materials and hardware.
  • 2 plus years in production planning, shop coordination, machining, fabrication, aerospace, defense, or heavy industrial environments
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, work orders, routings
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate accurately and clearly with production teams and customers as needed
  • Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a fast-paced environment, at times with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with machined weldments and welding particularly pertaining to the shipbuilding industry
  • Experience working with and analyzing 3D models
  • Experience in job-shop environments and with outsource vendors

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Office and shop floor setting.
  • Ability to stand or walk in production areas, and occasionally lift, up to 25 pounds
