This position is integral to the University’s inaugural longitudinal advising and student success model, providing consistent academic advising and success coaching to students from enrollment through key academic transitions and, within the model, through graduation. Grounded in NACADA Core Competencies, the Advisor and Student Success Coach I supports primarily first- and second-year students by fostering belonging, building self-efficacy, and promoting academic progress through proactive, learning-centered advising practices.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Advising and Success Coaching
- Manage an assigned caseload of prospective, first-year, and second-year students, providing continuous advising support through key academic transitions.
- Deliver individualized and group advising focused on course selection, general education requirements, major/minor exploration, and long-term academic and career planning.
- Conduct strengths-based academic coaching sessions that support goal setting, time management, academic skill development, and self-advocacy.
- Interpret and communicate university policies, procedures, and academic requirements related to enrollment, progression, and graduation.
- Audit student academic records, evaluate degree progress, review transcripts, and advise students on appropriate academic actions.
- Monitor student registration, academic performance, and progression to identify barriers to success and facilitate proactive intervention program with tier leadership.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential advising documentation in institutional systems.
Retention, Persistence, and Wraparound Support
- Serve as a primary point of connection for students by coordinating referrals to tutoring, counseling, career development, financial literacy, wellness, and other campus or community resources.
- Monitor retention, persistence, and graduation trends within the assigned caseload and provide targeted outreach to students in need of additional support.
- Coordinate and deliver timely communications related to course scheduling, academic deadlines, core requirements, and student success initiatives.
- Support students participating in academic recovery, readmission, or academic improvement programs by providing structured advising and retention services.
Data, Systems, and Continuous Improvement
- Utilize student success platforms, early alert systems, and predictive analytics to identify at-risk students and facilitate interventions with Tier leadership.
- Perform accurate data entry and maintenance of student success metrics and advising records.
- Analyze advising and student success data to inform outreach strategies, program enhancements, and communication efforts.
- Assist with the preparation of reports related to enrollment, retention, progression, and student outcomes.
Professional Development and Institutional Collaboration
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current on advising theory, student success practices, and NACADA standards.
- Collaborate with university partners to promote coordinated, holistic student support.
- Participate in first-year and second year experience initiatives, student success programs, and institutional retention efforts.
- Model a culture of care, accountability, collaboration, and student-centered service.
Evaluation Metrics
- Effective caseload management and accuracy of advising documentation.
- Responsiveness to student inquiries and follow-up communication.
- Retention, persistence, and progression outcomes within the assigned caseload.
