Job Description

The Medical Director for the Paramedic Program provides medical oversight and leadership to ensure the program meets current standards of medical practice and complies with all applicable accreditation, regulatory, and clinical requirements. This position plays a critical role in supporting student success, maintaining program accreditation, and ensuring graduates are competent in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains of paramedic practice.
The Medical Director works collaboratively with the Program Director, faculty, clinical partners, and the College to ensure high-quality educational delivery consistent with the
CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Director is responsible for medical oversight of the Paramedic Program, including but not limited to the following:

Curriculum Oversight

Review and approve all educational content of the Paramedic Program, including didactic instruction, laboratory activities, clinical experiences, field experiences, and capstone field internship components, to ensure alignment with current standards of medical practice.

Clinical and Field Experience Requirements

Review and approve required minimum numbers for patient contacts, clinical skills, and procedures in accordance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

Student Evaluation Processes
-
Review and approve evaluation instruments and processes used to assess student performance in didactic, laboratory, clinical, field, and capstone internship settings.

Student Progress and Corrective Action
-
Participate in the review of student progress throughout the program and assist in determining appropriate corrective or remediation measures when students demonstrate academic, clinical, or field performance deficiencies.

Graduate Competency Assurance
-
Ensure the competence of each program graduate in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains prior to program completion.

Program Leadership and Collaboration
-
Engage in cooperative and ongoing involvement with the Program Director, including regular communication regarding curriculum, student performance, accreditation, and program quality improvement.

Delegated Medical Oversight
-
Ensure the effectiveness and quality of any Medical Director responsibilities delegated to an Associate or Assistant Medical Director, when applicable.

Accreditation and Compliance Support
-
Support program accreditation activities, including documentation, reporting, site visits, and continuous quality improvement efforts related to medical oversight.

Faculty and Student Engagement

Interact with students and faculty through a variety of methods, which may include lectures, laboratory instruction, clinical or field observations, meetings, and/or synchronous electronic communication.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:-
Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of California.

Board certification or eligibility in Emergency Medicine or a closely related specialty.

Demonstrated knowledge of prehospital emergency medical services and paramedic scope of practice.

Experience providing medical oversight in EMS, prehospital care, or paramedic education.
Preferred Qualifications:-
Prior experience serving as a Medical Director or Associate Medical Director for a CAAHEP-accredited Paramedic Program.

Familiarity with California EMS Authority (EMSA) regulations and local EMS agency requirements.

Experience working within a community college or higher education environment.

Working Conditions:-
This position is typically part-time and may be compensated through a professional expert or adjunct faculty agreement, as determined by district policy.

Work may include a combination of on-campus, off-site clinical/field engagement, and remote activities.
