Job Summary

The Soules College of Business at The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-track Professor in Human Resource Development. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, mentor students, and maintain an active program of scholarship and service. The ideal candidate will also serve as Department Chair, providing academic leadership and administrative oversight for the department. The position starts in Fall 2026 pending final budget approval, and the salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Priority application deadline is Friday, October 17th, 2025, but review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Mentorship

  • Teach courses across all levels of the curriculum (undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral).
  • Advise and mentor students, including supervision of doctoral dissertations and theses.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of academic programs.

Scholarship and Research

  • Engage in an active program of research and scholarly publication.
  • Pursue external funding opportunities where applicable.
  • Contribute to the broader academic community through conferences, symposia, and collaborative projects.

Service and Leadership

  • Be committed to Student Success, Teaching Excellence and Serving East Texas as defined in the University Strategic plan.
  • Participate and lead in departmental, college, and university service.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.

If appointed as Department Chair:

  • Provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight of departmental operations.
  • Manage faculty recruitment, mentoring, and evaluation.
  • Oversee budgeting, scheduling, and accreditation activities.
  • Represent the department within the college, university, and external professional organizations.


Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Human Resource Development or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at multiple academic levels.
  • Strong record of scholarship and professional contributions.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior administrative or leadership experience in higher education.
  • Experience mentoring doctoral students.
  • Experience with curriculum development and program assessment.
  • Success in securing external funding.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
