The County of San Diego's Department of Purchasing and Contracting has a current opening for Program Coordinator

This position may offer a mix of in office and teleworking after an initial period. Interviews will take place the week of April 6th, 2026 and job offers will be made the week of April 20th, 2026.

FUTURE SALARY INCREASES

June 2026 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the-Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment)

June 2027 – 4.49% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the- Board +1.49% Market Adjustment)

DPC is responsible for effective and efficient procurement of goods, materials and services, supporting County departments. DPC procures all goods and services for the County of San Diego, as provided for in the County Charter. DPC ensures the competitive process is used for best price and highest quality while conforming to purchasing regulations and emphasizing excellent customer service practices. Procurement Contracting Officers work with representatives from all County departments to develop procurement strategies and documents and negotiate the highly complex fixed-price, time and material, and cost-reimbursement contracts for supplies and services.

About the Program Coordinator position:

DPC’s procurement process operates under an inclusive model of fair access to opportunities and full and open competition. Community engagement is at the center of the County's operational model, and DPC's goal is to enhance community engagement in the procurement process, especially to appropriately consider and reflect community needs and cultural competency/lived experiences during the process. The Program Coordinator will play an important role in collaborating with the community and partners across the County Enterprise.

Program Coordinator is a professional management level classification that provides administrative, analytical, planning, and management support for programs, projects, and facilities where substantive administrative, policy, and/or technical issues require specialized analysis, recommendation, and implementation.


The ideal candidate for this Program Coordinator position will possess the following:

  • Strong organizational skills, analytical thinking, and project management skills with attention to detail to ensure multiple items continue to conclusion
  • Proficiency and experience writing, editing, and reviewing items for a broad array of audiences, with demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office products, including advanced applications of Word and PowerPoint
  • Highly effective communication skills, ability to address sensitive issues and develop collaborative relationships with staff, customers, and community groups
  • Experience in conducting or coordinating community engagement activities, and comfortable delivering presentations and facilitating meetings to a broad audience
  • Ability to manage multiple high-profile, high-sensitivity projects or initiatives at the same time while being strategic and applying a forward-looking approach to follow through on commitments
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, manage a heavy workload, and meet deadlines despite rapidly changing priorities
  • Volunteer and demonstrate initiative to take on new assignments and follow through on commitments, with the highest level of ownership and dependability
  • Empathetic listener who is sensitive to the needs of staff and external customers

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or certified foreign studies equivalency, in business administration, public administration, environmental studies, civil engineering, accounting, information systems, or closely related field, AND, four (4) years of professional experience performing analysis, budget management, program administration, engineering, or closely related work in a program performing planning and analysis; OR a combination of education and/or experience as stated above

Hiring process and timeline
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

  • Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process will begin in April 2026. (Current County employees may be exempt from the background process.)
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment.
