Program Facilitator — Refugee School Impact (RSI) Project

About the Role

SALAM's Refugee School Impact (RSI) Project serves ORR-eligible refugee families in the Greater Sacramento region through three service areas: Youth Educational Development (YED), Family Engagement & Education (FEE), and Early Childhood Development (ECD).

We are hiring three Program Facilitators to deliver direct service across all three areas under the direction of the Program Coordinator. Facilitators provide tutoring and enrichment for K–12 youth, co-facilitate family workshops, and support parent-child early childhood sessions — all in a culturally and linguistically responsive way.

This is a grant-funded position, contingent on the availability of grant funds.

Language Requirement

Each Facilitator must be fluent in English plus at least one of the following priority languages:

• Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, Ukrainian

Applicants do not need to speak more than one of the priority languages. SALAM will select the three Facilitators so that the team collectively covers three different languages from the list above.

What the Team Will Accomplish

The three Facilitators work together with the Program Coordinator to meet the following grant-funded targets:

• YED — Tutoring & Enrichment
• FEE — Family Workshops
• ECD — Parent-Child Sessions

Key Responsibilities

Youth Educational Development (YED)

• Provide academic tutoring in core subjects — reading, writing, math, and homework support — to elementary students.
• Support English language development for youth participants.
• Deliver structured after-school enrichment activities that are culturally affirming and age-appropriate.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment; support youth social-emotional development and confidence.
• Monitor student progress and share observations with the Program Coordinator.

Family Engagement & Education (FEE)

• Co-facilitate family workshops.
• Interpret and translate during workshops, parent conversations, and intake so families can participate meaningfully in their preferred language.
• Assist with outreach to ORR-eligible families, including community-network outreach, phone calls, and event reminders.

Early Childhood Development (ECD)

• Support parent-child literacy and school-readiness sessions for families with children ages 0–5.
• Help set up developmentally appropriate materials and caregiver supports (refreshments, translation, incentives) for each session.
• Provide language support for caregivers during sessions and during referrals to early-care and education resources.

Program Operations (All Service Areas)

• Maintain attendance records, session documentation, and participant sign-in sheets.
• Support participant recruitment and intake for eligibility verification.
• Communicate respectfully and professionally with participants, families, volunteers, and community partners.
• Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and fellow Facilitators to align services with program goals.
• Complete required background screening (e.g., Livescan) prior to working with participants.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; college coursework or degree preferred.
• Fluency in English and in at least one RSI priority language (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, or Ukrainian).
• Experience working with youth and/or families in educational or community settings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging both children and adults.
• Ability to support diverse learners, including English language learners, and to adapt to varied family needs.
• Cultural sensitivity and experience with refugee or immigrant communities.
• Availability for flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for workshops and sessions.
• Passion for refugee family support, youth development, and community service.

Team Structure

Program Facilitators work as a team of three, reporting to the Program Coordinator. Between them, the Facilitators cover three of the six priority languages so that outreach, tutoring, workshops, and early childhood sessions can be delivered in the language each family is most comfortable in.

Salary and Term:

This is a part-time, grant-funded contract position paying $20 per hour, supported by the Refugee School Impact (RSI) Grant. The term runs May 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027, and continued engagement beyond the grant term is contingent on future funding.

As an independent contractor, the Facilitator is not eligible for employee benefits.
