This is your opportunity to help shape an organization where culture, equity, community engagement and employee development are top priorities.

Join a Team that Values People, Community, and Connection

At the Kenton County Public Library, we believe the heart of great library service starts with great people. We’re looking for a Programming Coordinator who is creative, organized, and passionate about delivering dynamic, high-impact programming for a diverse community. If you enjoy leading teams, planning and executing large-scale events, and collaborating across branches to bring innovative ideas to life, this role offers an exciting opportunity to shape engaging experiences that connect patrons of all ages with the library.

What You’ll Do

  • Participate as a key member of the branch management team, serving as Manager on Duty and supporting all service desks as needed.
  • Lead and support programming staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and scheduling team members.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive programming plan aligned with the library’s strategic plan, budget, and operational priorities, meeting the community’s educational, cultural, and recreational needs.
  • Oversee the creation, promotion, and execution of programs for all age groups, including generating ideas, securing presenters, and facilitating events.
  • Build partnerships with publishers, local bookstores, and community organizations, while staying current on regional and cultural trends to inform programming.
  • Ensure all programs comply with library policies, safety standards, and accessibility requirements.
  • Collaborate with staff across branches to coordinate systemwide programming, calendars, and resources, minimizing scheduling conflicts.
  • Track and evaluate program performance by analyzing attendance, engagement, and feedback; provide monthly reports to the Branch Manager and recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate services to educational facilities not covered by the Outreach Department.
  • Serve on systemwide committees (e.g., Summer Reading Club) and lead branch-level implementation of related initiatives.
  • Actively promote and advocate for library services within the community.
  • Partner with the Public Relations Department to creatively and effectively market programs and events, including participating in media appearances such as TV interviews.
  • Represent the library by serving on councils, boards, and committees; present at local, state, and/or national levels.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as needed to support Library operations.

What We’re Looking For

  • A creative collaborator who works effectively with others, stays organized and efficient, and sets clear priorities and goals.
  • A strategic thinker who can manage and implement programming ideas across branches while aligning with system-wide vision.
  • A knowledgeable professional familiar with library collections in all formats and for all age groups, with awareness of current literature and pop culture trends.
  • An adaptable team member who embraces change, innovation, and new ideas in a dynamic environment.
  • A tech-savvy learner who is eager to adopt, use, and teach new technologies.
  • An empathetic and approachable communicator who fosters a welcoming, inclusive environment for patrons, colleagues, and the community.
  • A strong communicator who builds positive relationships and interacts clearly and professionally with diverse audiences.
  • A service-oriented professional who is patient, proactive, and committed to excellent customer service, with knowledge of (or willingness to learn) the Kenton County community.

Qualifications Required

  • Relevant experience in event planning or program coordination, with an educational background that supports the role.
  • KDLA certification (or ability to obtain) at the level required for this position, and the ability to maintain it.
  • Training and experience in library work or a related field.
  • Demonstrated customer-service experience, patience under pressure, and comfort interacting with a wide range of patrons.
  • Demonstrated leadership, administrative, budgetary, process management practices and customer relations experience.
  • Experience in training, supervision and development of staff.
  • Willingness to become a notary or passport agent a plus.
  • Experience using Windows-based PCs and software; familiarity with MS Office products (particularly Word and Excel) and Canva
  • Reliable transportation to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 30 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 20-50 lbs., and occasional reaching, bending, and kneeling.
