At INTEC Group, we’re about two things: people and design—and more specifically, how design impacts people. How they work, how they connect, and how they find fulfillment. We believe design has the power to enhance the human condition, and we’re passionate about doing just that.

Your Role

As a Project Designer at INTEC Group, you have established a strong foundation in the design world—and you’re ready to take the next step. This role blends creative vision with technical expertise to shape thoughtful, life-enhancing spaces for our clients. You’ll make key design choices and decisions throughout the process, ensuring the aesthetic direction aligns with each client’s goals. From conceptual sketches and finish selections to renderings and construction documents, you’ll play an active role in bringing ideas to life. At INTEC, we believe in well-rounded designers; so rather than be pigeonholed into one phase or aspect of a project, you’ll be hands-on from concept to completion.

This hybrid position requires at least three (3) days in the office each week and offers the flexibility to balance focused work and in-person collaboration in a way that works for you. While the schedule may shift based on project needs, our ideal candidate is local to the DMV area or actively relocating. Candidates seeking a fully remote opportunity will NOT be considered.

Note: A background in architecture, interior design, or a closely related design field is required. Candidates without relevant design experience will not be considered.

As an interiors Project Designer on the INTEC Group team, you will:

  • Lead the design and production phases for a variety of project types, from visioning and space planning through construction completion.
  • Field verify various project sites for use in creating/updating existing conditions drawings.
  • Utilize hand sketches and 3D software to articulate design concepts and details.
  • Prepare design packages which effectively communicate ideas and concepts; actively participate in meetings in which this is presented to the client for review and feedback.
  • Research, recommend and select appropriate finishes + fixtures; order finishes, as required or needed.
  • Be actively involved in fitments (INTEC’s term for “FF&E); select furniture, accessories, artwork, etc. that support our cohesive design delivery efforts. Includes preparing presentations, coordinating with vendors/manufacturers, compiling budgetary pricing and developing specifications.
  • Produce construction documents consisting of plans, elevations, details and specifications, reflected ceiling plans, lighting designs, materials, finishes, and furniture.
  • Provide coordination when collaborating with consulting engineers + other consultants, as required.
  • Help with the finalization of all permit applications, building information forms and associated permit forms following completion of the construction documents phase.
  • Provide construction administration services including punch list walk-thrus, shop drawings and submittal reviews, responding to RFIs, field observation and preparing meeting minutes.
  • Self-manage multiple tasks/projects concurrently.
  • Meet in-person locally and travel domestically, if required.
  • Mentor interns and other junior-level positions.
  • Work hard but play hard as well… contribute to office activities, cultural initiatives + learning opportunities.

Qualifications needed to be successful in this role include:

  • Professional degree (Masters or Bachelor) in Interior Design, or related field, from an accredited school.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience focused on commercial interiors projects. Bonus for faith-based, workplace/asset services, life science and/or retail experience (NOTE: this is NOT an entry level position!)
  • NCIDQ certification preferred, but not required.
  • LEED and or WELL accreditation preferred but not required.
  • Your technical and graphic presentation skills are on point; you can proficiently use Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign and other software to effectively produce project deliverables and communicate ideas to teammates and clients alike.
  • You’re an out-of-the-box, creative thinker and you take pride in your work.
  • A career based on a solid foundation of the fundamentals; you possess a strong, comprehensive knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, finish/material specifications and basic construction techniques.
  • A high emotional intelligence with the natural ability to connect to people.
  • A team-oriented mindset, with strong leadership and relationship management skills; willing to work collaboratively with project team members of all backgrounds and experience levels.

If you’re a “creative” who likes to have fun as you work with a high-degree of autonomy and responsibility, now’s the time to apply! Qualified and interested candidates shouldsubmit a resume and a portfolio or work samples in ordered to be considered. You must also be living in the DMV area, or in the process of relocating.
