The Project Engineer will be instrumental in the design and execution of all municipal projects. This position will lead efforts in project management support, parts and components selection and specification review. The position will support project management in a technical role and assist with field service when required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Engineering & Technical Responsibilities
-
Review and interpret process designs, P&IDs, hydraulic profiles, equipment layouts, and specifications.

Support process, mechanical, electrical, and I&C engineers during detailed design.
-
Perform or coordinate equipment sizing and selection (pumps, membranes, filters, chemical systems).
-
Review vendor drawings, data sheets, and calculations for compliance with project requirements.
-
Ensure designs meet regulatory standards (EPA, AWWA, NSF, local codes)
2. Project Execution & Coordination
-
Act as a technical liaison between engineering, procurement, fabrication, and operations.
-
Track engineering deliverables against the project schedule.
-
Support development of construction work packages and installation details.
-
Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and HAZOPs.
-
Manage RFIs, technical clarifications, and field change requests.
3. Procurement & Vendor Management
-
Prepare or support technical bid evaluations.
-
Coordinate with suppliers on fabrication schedules and technical requirements.
-
Review factory acceptance test (FAT) procedures and results.
-
Support expediting and logistics for critical equipment.
4. Construction & Field Support
-
Provide on-site engineering support during construction.
-
Resolve field issues related to piping, equipment installation, and interfaces.
-
Review and approve as-built drawings.
-
Support installation inspections and quality control checks.
5. Commissioning & Startup
-
Assist in development of commissioning and startup plans.
-
Participate in equipment testing, system flushing, and performance testing.
-
Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues during startup.
-
Verify system performance against design criteria and contract guarantees.
-

Skills & Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university, specializing in chemical, civil or mechanical engineering or equivalent.

Minimum 5 years plus of biological process or drinking water process for highly engineered processes.

Expert user in Excel for data management and analysis.

Able to use SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
-
Experience with BioWin or other biological process design tools.
-
Experience working with remote teams is highly desirable.
