Job Description

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Project Management Office (PMO) within Strategic Operations requires a proactive and detail-oriented intern to provide administrative and project support for high-impact agency-wide initiatives. This role is crucial during the transition period while the PMO awaits the hiring of a project coordinator.

  • Assist in preparing for the rollout of electronic tracking clinic production within jails,
ensuring all staff have computer access and training.
  • Support operational improvements and partnerships between Correctional Health
Services (CHS) and the Department of Corrections (DOC).
  • Help with the planning and execution of Phase 2 of the PIC ID project, focusing on
implementing a sustainable process for ID card distribution.
  • Document project progress, challenges, and lessons learned to support continuous
improvement initiatives.

Preferred Skills
  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated in Project Management or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
