Position Overview
The Construction Superintendent team invites qualified candidates to apply for the role of Project Manager / Construction Superintendent 3. This pivotal leadership position is responsible for managing construction projects to achieve critical mission objectives. The successful candidate will lead projects valued at $500k or less, provide oversight to junior Superintendents, and ensure the seamless execution of facility maintenance, renovations, and upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Lead and manage project teams, including the organization of work schedules, resource allocation, and tracking project progress.
- Financial & Schedule Management: Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM). Responsible for planning, budgeting, and controlling costs and schedule performance. Perform variance analysis reviews to determine the cause and effect of discrepancies and define achievable corrective action plans.
- Operational Oversight: Ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work. Initiate investigations into abnormal events or incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present project performance plans, status updates, and trends to federal sponsors and senior management. Maintain strong customer engagement and develop executable action plans to address program needs.
- Safety & Compliance: Provide personal leadership and technical advice regarding health, safety, and environmental compliance. Ensure strict adherence to work hazards, safety practices, and lock-out/tag-out policies.
- Technical Reviews: Lead constructability reviews during the design process to mitigate potential impacts on construction costs and schedules. Interpret complex physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience, with at least five (5) years specifically in engineering, procurement, or construction functions.
- Industry Expertise: Direct Nuclear Experience is required.
- Technical Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of all phases of construction projects, including D&D, facility maintenance, systems engineering design, configuration management, and work control systems.
- Project Controls: Proven experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and proactively managing project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Labor Relations: Extensive understanding of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades.
- Risk Management: Demonstrated ability to identify project risks and develop robust mitigation strategies or recovery plans.
- Software Proficiency: Skill in utilizing computerized work management systems to track job activities and coordinate vendor deliveries.
Education & Clearance Requirements
- Education: A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or specialized courses in project management (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a DOE Q Clearance is required.
- Flexibility: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, and weekends as project needs dictate.
