Property Field Claims Adjuster - Northwest Wisconsin

As a Rural Mutual Insurance Company Property Field Adjuster, you independently investigate, evaluate, and resolve property damage claims involving residential, commercial, and farm properties. This role is responsible for managing moderate to complex losses with limited oversight while delivering accurate, timely, and customer-focused claim outcomes.


This position serves Northwest WI, including Barron, Burnette, Chippewa, Dunn, Pierce, and St. Croix Counties.
You have the opportunity to work out of your home and will be provided with a company vehicle, cell phone, and computer.


In this role, you'll apply sound judgment, advanced estimating skills, and confident policy interpretation to guide claims from initial inspection through settlement, escalation, or resolution. You serve as a trusted point of contact for policyholders and partners, balancing empathy, financial stewardship, and regulatory compliance.

Compensation:

$60,000 - $80,000 yearly

Responsibilities:
  • Independently conduct on-site inspections of physical or property damage to insured properties resulting from events such as fire, storm, water, vandalism, or accidents; evaluate scope, cause, and severity of loss.
  • Interpret and apply policy language to determine coverage, exclusions, and liability across a range of property claim scenarios with minimal guidance.
  • Accurately assess damages and prepare estimates for repair or replacement using industry-standard estimating tools and methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive claim documentation, including reports, photographs, measurements, estimates, and correspondence to support claim decisions.
  • Negotiate and resolve claims with policyholders, contractors, and third parties within assigned authority, clearly explaining coverage, deductibles, and settlement rationale.
  • Manage claims from initial inspection through resolution, ensuring proactive communication, appropriate reserve management, and timely closure.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Agents, Legal, and Claims leadership to address complex coverage questions, recoveries, or risk considerations.
  • Identify and pursue subrogation, contribution, and salvage opportunities in alignment with company guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource for less experienced adjusters, sharing best practices and supporting team knowledge growth as appropriate.
  • Stay current on property insurance regulations, RMIC policies, and industry standards, applying them consistently and accurately in claim handling.
  • Escalate high-severity, unusual, or sensitive claims when appropriate while demonstrating ownership of assigned inventory.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support department goals and operational excellence.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of property-related experience, including field-based property adjusting, construction, restoration, or inspection work.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently handle moderate to complex property claims from inspection through settlement.
  • Strong working knowledge of property insurance policies, claim investigation techniques, and estimating software.
  • Demonstrates independent judgment and accountability in claim decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships through professionalism, credibility, and empathy.
  • Advanced understanding of construction methods, materials, and repair practices
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear, confident communicator able to explain complex claim decisions to diverse audiences
  • Highly organized; effectively manages multiple claims, deadlines, and field schedules.
  • Proficient in claims management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and related tools.
  • Proficient in Xactimate and related or similar tools.
  • Ability to perform field-related physical activities, including climbing ladders, walking on roofs, navigating uneven terrain, and working in damaged or partially collapsed structures.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, risk management & insurance, construction management, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience working with cause-and-origin investigations.
  • Prior involvement in subrogation, contribution, and salvage processes.
  • Familiarity with multi-line property claims.
  • HAAG Certification preferred, or in progress.
  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish, Hmong, etc.) are a plus.
