We’re seeking a proactive and experienced Maintenance Technician to be a hands-on leader that will assist with the maintenance and upkeep of our properties including the interior and exterior of the buildings, grounds, amenities and common areas while ensuring all work is carried out to the highest standards.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, entrepreneurial, and collaborative team. The role is located at BLG’s Blackwood Groves and Penrose communities in Bozeman, MT.
Your Essential Responsibilities
- Respond to and complete service requests generated by residents, addressing both urgent issues and routine maintenance needs. Diagnose the source of problem and perform repairs according to established policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- Complete the make-ready process for vacant apartments, ensuring they are prepared for new residents. This includes conducting pre-move-out inspections, creating a list of necessary maintenance tasks, coordinating with vendors and contractors, obtaining supplies, completing required repairs, and inspecting the finished work.
- Follow cleanliness and appearance standards for the grounds, amenities, building exteriors, unit interiors, breezeways, curbs, signage, leasing office, trash areas, parking lots, and other common areas, ensuring they align with the high quality and standards set by the company.
- Monitor and manage the maintenance inventory, ensuring that supplies are available when needed and within budget constraints.
- Complete monthly preventative maintenance tasks as requested by Supervisor.
- Support cost-saving initiatives by prioritizing repairs over replacements, minimizing waste, and ensuring tools and materials are used efficiently.
- Provide excellent customer service by treating residents and team members with respect, addressing maintenance-related inquiries and complaints promptly, and handling work orders with efficiency and urgency.
- Regularly inspect the property to assess its condition, spot potential safety concerns, and identify any maintenance or code violations.
- Conduct detailed inspections of vacant units before move-ins to confirm readiness.
- Utilize community management software efficiently and ensure adherence to company guidelines for all property operations.
- Communicate regularly with the Maintenance Supervisor and Community Manager to keep them updated on maintenance status, team progress, and any emerging issues.
- Willingness to participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies and help with snow removal as necessary.

Must Haves
- At least 1 year of experience in a maintenance role.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects at once.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and property management software (Yardi).
- A solid understanding of plumbing and electrical systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Comfortable standing/walking for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions while performing outdoor tasks.
