This position acts as a Prosecutor I in Municipal Court and also provides a variety of legal services to the city as necessary or as directed by the Deputy City Attorney, City Attorney, or Chief Administrative Officer. Responsibilities include performing prosecution casework, as well as drafting a wide variety of legal documents and correspondence.
The work performed by this class requires incumbents to apply professional knowledge and expertise as well as established guidelines and alternatives to determine facts, analyze problems, and make decisions without immediate supervisory review; incumbents may respond to sensitive and complicated inquiries or problems related to criminal and traffic prosecution. The work requires judgment in selecting the appropriate methods and procedures for accomplishing project assignments, and incumbents perform their daily work independently and alert their supervisor to potentially controversial issues.
A combination of the experience, education, and training listed below which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.
Experience:

Zero to two years of experience in professional legal work preferred.
Education and Training:

Juris Doctorate degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
Licenses or Certificates:

Active membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.

Must possess, or have the ability to possess within one month of hire date, a Washington State Driver's License.

Work is performed mainly during City office hours; however, incumbent may occasionally be required to participate in evening court proceedings or attend night meetings of the City Council.
