Job Summary
The Prosthetics & Orthotics (P&O) Specialist is responsible for assessing patients, designing, fabricating, fitting, and maintaining prosthetic and orthotic devices to improve patient mobility, function, and quality of life. The role requires close coordination with doctors, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Assess patients with limb loss, deformities, or neuromuscular conditions.
- Take accurate measurements, casts, and impressions for prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Design, fabricate, fit, and align prostheses and orthoses as per prescription.
- Perform trial fittings, adjustments, and final delivery of devices.
- Educate patients and caregivers on use, care, and maintenance of devices.
- Monitor patient progress and make modifications as required.
- Maintain proper clinical documentation and patient records.
Technical Responsibilities
- Fabricate prosthetic and orthotic components using appropriate materials and techniques.
- Repair, replace, and maintain existing prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Ensure quality control, safety, and durability of all devices.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop hygiene.
Coordination & Compliance
- Work closely with doctors, physiotherapists, and rehabilitation staff.
- Follow clinical protocols, safety standards, and ethical practices.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and statutory regulations.
Qualifications & ExperienceEducational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Prosthetics & Orthotics (BPO / DPO) from a recognized institute.
Experience
- Freshers or experienced candidates may apply (experience preferred).
- Hands-on experience in clinical fitting and fabrication is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of prosthetic and orthotic systems.
- Patient-focused approach with good communication skills.
- Technical and manual fabrication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic computer knowledge for documentation.
Working Conditions
- Clinical and workshop-based role.
- May require travel for outreach camps or patient visits.
- Standing and manual work involved.
