Protection & Control Engineer – Roles and Responsibilities
Technical & Engineering Responsibilities

Perform testing and commissioning of protection relays and Control & Relay (C&R) panels both in-house and at customer sites.

Conduct testing of distance, line differential, generator, transformer, busbar, motor, and feeder relays (incoming/outgoing), including electromechanical, static, digital, and numerical relays using secondary injection test equipment.

Test and validate relays from major manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, Alstom, Schneider Electric, and GE.

Develop and configure relay setting files, including protection and control functions, logic schemes, and communication parameters.

Analyze customer requirements and design protection and control schemes that meet technical specifications and operational needs.

Design and implement advanced control logic solutions, including transfer schemes and auto-restoration systems.

Troubleshoot and resolve field issues related to protection and automation equipment.
-
Integrate relays, gateways, BCUs, and IEDs with SCADA systems using various communication protocols.

Deliver services related to Protection & Control panels, including Substation Automation System (SAS) projects.

Demonstrate strong knowledge of communication protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101/103/104, IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus.
Technical Support & Operations

Provide technical and operational support to Sales, Service, and Commercial teams to ensure successful project execution.

Support Design and Engineering teams with scheme modifications and implementation of new protection and control schemes for systems up to 380 kV.

Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including test reports, relay configuration files, final setting files, and RIO files, ensuring proper handover to the Project Manager.

Develop Inspection & Test Plans (ITP), test procedures, and detailed test reports in line with project and quality requirements.

Execute testing and commissioning of power system equipment with strong practical and theoretical expertise.

Demonstrate full scheme knowledge required for safe substation energization.

Perform testing and demonstrate understanding of primary equipment such as CTs, PTs, circuit breakers, and power transformers.

Ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.

Adhere to Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental, Health & Safety Management System (EHSMS) standards, objectives, and policies.

Additional Requirements

Hold a valid driving license and be willing to travel and drive as required.

Willing to work across various locations within Saudi Arabia.

Flexible to adapt to different assignments and project requirements.
