Protective Coating – Technology Officer

This job will be based at APME, Oman.

Job Purpose:

The Protective Paint officer is responsible for formulating, testing, and improving protective coating systems, including epoxies, polyurethanes, and Heat & corrosion-resistant coatings.

Job Responsibilities:

• Strong knowledge of epoxy, polyurethane, silicon/silicate, and other heavy-duty protective coating systems.
• Familiarity with ISO 12944, NACE/SSPC/ISO/ASTM surface preparation standards, and protective coating test methods.
• Ability to interpret corrosion behaviors, coating defects, and failure modes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and report-writing capability.
• Improve existing protective coating systems to achieve durability requirements under ISO 12944 categories (C1–C5, CX).
• Evaluate new raw materials for cost efficiency, performance, and sustainability.
• Develop and refine protective coating formulations including primers, intermediates, and topcoats.
• Conduct product property testing, corrosion resistance tests, and other ASTM/ISO test methods independently and interpret laboratory data and prepare technical reports.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and support QC processes.
• Assist in scale-up trials from lab-scale to plant-scale production.
• Evaluate raw materials and support qualification activities.
• Ensure adherence to ISO, EH&S regulations during testing and handling of coating materials.
• Maintain accurate documentation for test results, formulations, trials, and reports.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple tasks under tight timelines.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor/Master's degree in Chemistry/Polymer Science, Paint Technologist (B. Tech / M. Tech), or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of Experience in protective coatings and corrosion science.
• Hands-on experience with epoxy, PU, Silicon/Silicate, and high-performance systems.
• Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Attributes:

• Experience with sustainability-driven materials or high-durability systems.
• Knowledge of epoxy, PU, Polyurea, Poly aspartic, Heat Resistance and intumescent coating along with ISO 12944.
