Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including patient history, mental status examinations, and risk assessments to inform diagnosis and treatment strategies.
- Prescribe medications and manage psychopharmacological treatments in accordance with state regulations and clinical guidelines.
- Provide psychotherapy, counseling, and behavioral interventions tailored to individual patient needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans, discharge planning, and follow-up services for patients across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation of patient encounters and treatment progress.
- Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, medication management, lifestyle modifications, and available community resources.
- Participate in clinical research initiatives or quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing mental health services and patient outcomes.
Skills
- Proven experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Athenahealth for efficient documentation and data management.
- Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology principles, medication administration protocols, and medication management strategies.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, mental status exams, and physiological evaluations.
- Familiarity with telehealth platforms to provide remote psychiatric consultations effectively.
- Experience working with diverse populations including children, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those in assisted living or nursing home settings.
- Competence in crisis intervention techniques such as triage for acute psychiatric emergencies or suicidal ideation.
- Knowledge of relevant laws including workers’ compensation law and HIPAA regulations to ensure compliant practice standards. Additional desirable skills include experience with acute care environments such as ICU or emergency medicine settings; familiarity with CPT coding for billing purposes; expertise in behavioral health interventions; and understanding of complex medical conditions like infectious disease care or hospice & palliative medicine that intersect with mental health needs.
