Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary mental health team. Duties

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including patient history, mental status examinations, and risk assessments using EMR systems such as Epic and eClinicalWorks.
  • Develop and implement personalized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology, therapy referrals, and lifestyle modifications aligned with best practices.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications, ensuring safe administration and adherence to HIPAA regulations and state-specific prescribing laws.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Manage acute psychiatric episodes by providing crisis intervention, triage services, and stabilization in inpatient or outpatient settings.
  • Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, medication use, lifestyle adjustments, and community resources to foster recovery and resilience.
  • Document all clinical encounters accurately within EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth for seamless continuity of care.
  • Participate in clinical research initiatives or quality improvement projects aimed at advancing behavioral health practices.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in psychopharmacology, trauma-informed care, geriatrics, pediatric mental health, substance use disorders including alcohol and opioid dependence treatments.
  • Maintain compliance with infection control protocols during patient interactions and sterile procedures when necessary.

Skills

  • Proven experience with psychiatric medication management including psychotropics; familiarity with CPT coding for billing purposes.
  • Strong knowledge of behavioral health assessment tools and diagnostic criteria such as ICD-10/ICD-9 coding systems.
  • Proficiency in telehealth platforms to deliver remote mental health services effectively.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, mental status exams, and physiological evaluations when needed.
  • Skilled in crisis intervention techniques such as de-escalation strategies for acute agitation or suicidal ideation.
  • Experience working with diverse populations including children, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia (Alzheimer’s/dementia care), hospice & palliative medicine patients.
  • Familiarity with medical procedures like venipuncture for lab testing or medication administration routes including injections or IV infusions.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance for patient confidentiality and documentation standards.
  • Competence in managing complex cases involving trauma (Level I/II trauma center experience), substance use disorders (including opioid treatment), or post-acute care settings such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
  • Ability to utilize EMR/EHR systems efficiently for documentation, order entry, discharge planning, utilization review, and case management activities. Pay: $86,436.39 - $104,095.44 per year
