Position Summary
Empower Health is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and patient-focused Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide high-quality psychiatric and behavioral healthcare services to adolescents, adults, and older adults. The PMHNP will play a key role in delivering evidence-based mental health care within an integrated primary care and behavioral health model.This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with physicians, therapists, care managers, and technology-enabled care teams to improve access to mental health services while helping patients achieve meaningful and sustainable health outcomes. Qualified candidates will also have the opportunity to serve as a Principal Investigator in clinical research studies, working alongside leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies to shape the next generation of psychiatric treatments.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
- Diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health conditions including:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- ADHD
- PTSD
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Substance use disorders
- Sleep disorders
- Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
- Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and state regulations.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness, medication adherence, and patient safety.
- Perform suicide risk assessments and crisis interventions as needed.
- Coordinate care with primary care providers and specialists to address whole-person health needs.
- Administer and oversee a dedicated Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression (TRD), utilizing advanced therapeutics including esketamine (Spravato) and other emerging interventional modalities. Ensure full compliance with REMS certification, patient monitoring protocols, and safety reporting requirements.
- Expected hours per week (patient-facing): 25 – 30
- Patients will be referred to this provider from an existing Primary Care practice, as well as a nearby Clinical research company
Clinical Research
- Serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or sub-investigator on industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical trials in psychiatry and behavioral health.
- Collaborate with leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies to evaluate novel therapeutics, devices, and care delivery models.
- Oversee research protocol implementation, participant safety, and data integrity in accordance with GCP, IRB, and FDA guidelines.
- Contribute to the development of Empower Health's research pipeline and help identify opportunities to expand clinical trial offerings.
Integrated Behavioral Health
- Collaborate closely with internal medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and care coordinators.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and care planning.
- Support behavioral health integration within primary care workflows.
- Contribute to population health initiatives targeting behavioral health outcomes.
Patient Experience
- Build trusted, long-term therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, and self-management strategies.
- Promote shared decision-making and patient engagement.
Innovation & Quality Improvement
- Utilize Empower Health's technology platform, clinical decision support tools, and data analytics to optimize care delivery.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical program development.
- Help shape innovative behavioral health services and care models.
QualificationsRequired
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) certification.
- Active and unrestricted Texas APRN license.
- DEA registration and eligibility to prescribe controlled substances.
- Minimum of 2 years of psychiatric clinical experience preferred.
- Strong diagnostic, psychopharmacology, and clinical assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Experience in integrated behavioral health or collaborative care models.
- Experience treating adult and geriatric populations.
- Telepsychiatry experience.
- Experience with REMS-certified therapeutics (e.g., esketamine/Spravato) or interventional psychiatry.
- Prior clinical research experience, including PI or sub-investigator roles.
- Familiarity with GCP, IRB processes, and FDA regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with value-based care and population health initiatives.
- Interest in healthcare innovation, technology-enabled care, and clinical program development.
