Job Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and with required knowledge of professional nursing to provide nursing and psychiatric care to patients. In this capacity, performs duties including but not limited to the following: Provides direct nursing and psychiatric care to residents and direction to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN); assesses health care needs of residents, initiates and directs implementation of any nursing treatment plans to meet established goals for each resident; integrates nursing goals into interprofessional practice (IPP); monitors health and safety status of residents on assigned shift; Assist in emergencies (i.e. first aide, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), psychotropic emergencies, etc.) records and reports unusual behaviors and/or conditions to physicians, supervisor and other appropriate personnel; implements physician’s order and assists with medical procedures as necessary; ensures medication and treatment are administered according to policy, including actual medication administration; provides professional judgment and intervention as needed; monitor closely residents requiring acute care as necessary; ensure proper maintenance and security of the night drug cupboard as appropriate. Mandatory overtime is required of this position.
Assumes primary nursing responsibility for residents assigned including nursing treatment planning, verification and review of physician orders, chart audits, self-medication plans, human sexuality programs, medication administration, infection control, physical assessments and health care related scenario programs, as appropriate to assigned duties on assigned duty shift; participates in related meetings as required by Supervisor; responsible to communicate medical information to parents/guardians, when appropriate.
Monitor health care charts on cottages to ensure proper follow-up and continuity of health care; maintains records of all activities, as required; submits reports to Supervisor including but not limited to: IPP input, chart audits, psychotropic medication reviews, self-medication inputs and physical assessments, performs related duties as required by supervisor.
