Job Responsibilities

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Greater Greenville Mental Health Center, 124 Mallard Street, Greenville, SC 29601.

The Office of Mental Health’s mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

Under limited supervision, performs responsibilities for the psychiatric and medical treatment of patients of Greater Greenville Mental Health Center, interviews, examines, diagnose and treats mental health disorders of patients; performs professional duties requiring analysis of a broad spectrum of problems; responsible for medically related administrative functions of the clinic; performs consultations to other clinical professional staff members.

Responsibilities for the Psychiatrist:
  • Conduct psychiatric/medical assessments, both routine and emergency; prescribe and monitor medications for all counties in the Center's catchment area.

  • Conduct meetings with multidisciplinary treatment team to monitor progress, discuss consumer needs and facilitate the development and comprehensive individualized service plan.

  • Actively support Corporate Compliance and adheres to regulations, policies and procedures of Corporate Compliance.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina.
  • Completion of required residency in psychiatry and two (2) years direct patient care.
  • Board certification in psychiatry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

  • Be able to pass CPR and Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
  • Be licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina.
