Position Overview

The Communications Specialist supports the Director of Membership and Communications in implementing the Club’s communication, marketing, and member-engagement initiatives. This role assists with digital and print communications, social media, and member technology support to ensure consistent, high-quality messaging aligned with The Venice Golf and Country Club’s brand standards. The successful candidate considers themselves a tech savvy individual.

Primary Responsibilities

Publications & Print Materials

  • Gather, edit, and organize articles, photos, and event content for The Legend newsletter and monthly calendar.
  • Design newsletter and calendar layouts using the provided Canva templates.
  • Collect and produce the monthly Statement Letter within the established Canva format.
  • Print, assemble, and maintain prospective-member folders and other marketing materials.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of printed items such as newsletters, amenities guides, and reciprocal booklets at the front desk.
  • Proofread all communications to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency in tone and branding.

Digital Communications & Email Marketing

  • Build and schedule weekly member email blasts (typically Mondays and Wednesdays) in the MembersFirst platform using Club templates.
  • Assist in managing segmented email lists and targeted messaging using Jonas and MembersFirst data exports.
  • Track, summarize, and report email performance metrics and engagement trends.

Website, App, and Member Support

  • Keep the website and app event calendars current and accurate.
  • Update departmental pages, golf and bocce results, and other content as directed.
  • Conduct periodic data cleanup in MembersFirst and Jonas.
  • Provide first-line support to members and staff for website and app access, including password resets and troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with IT support or the Director for any technical escalations.

Social Media & Digital Engagement

  • Develop creative, on-brand social media content for the Club’s public and member-only Facebook pages.
  • Capture and edit event photos and short video clips to highlight Club activities and community life.
  • Maintain a consistent posting schedule and monitor engagement, reporting insights and feedback.
  • Support digital storytelling efforts that enhance the Club’s “community-driven” image.

Administrative & Marketing Support

  • Scan and upload membership documents into OnPhase.
  • Maintain organized digital archives of newsletters, flyers, and campaign materials.
  • Assist with event coverage, including photography or set-up support for special occasions.
  • Provide general administrative support for communications and membership projects.
  • Collaborate on special marketing initiatives such as brochure updates, membership campaigns, and digital signage.

Key Competencies & Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, OneDrive, Outlook).
  • Design Skills: Proficient in Canva.
  • Communication: Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Organization: Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable learning new platforms; experience with CRM/email systems (MembersFirst, Mailchimp, Constant Contact) preferred.
  • Creativity: Demonstrates an eye for design and storytelling across visual and written formats.
  • Independence: Works effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Adaptability: Able to adjust priorities and respond quickly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • AI Literacy: Familiar with AI tools such as ChatGPT or Canva Magic Studio for content generation and productivity.
