Pt Transportation Aide

Under limited supervision, the Pt Transportation Aide is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients, specimens, deceased individuals, and equipment throughout the Medical Center in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role supports the smooth operation of the department by assisting nursing staff, ensuring proper use and maintenance of transport equipment, and adhering to safety and infection control standards. The aide utilizes communication tools such as telephone-based dispatch systems, pagers, and two-way radios to coordinate transports, while promoting positive relations with patients, hospital personnel, and guests. Additionally, the position may involve assisting with duties of the Transportation Equipment Coordinator and Team Leader during their absences and requires access to medication storage areas.

Education and Experience requirements for the Pt Transportation Aide position include a High School Diploma or GED, with alternative certification programs through Baltimore City Public School Systems and Project Search internships also accepted. Candidates should possess a minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare or customer service setting, with prior experience as a Patient Transportation Aide considered advantageous. Required knowledge and skills encompass BLS certification for CPR, effective communication in English with healthcare personnel, proficiency in patient safety, hazard prevention, body mechanics, and adherence to departmental policies, as well as the capability to enter isolation environments (fit testing required). Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care skills and competence in operating communication devices such as two-way radios, telephones, computers, and pagers. The position prioritizes patient safety by mandating proactive risk mitigation, thorough reporting of adverse events and near misses, and the identification of potential risks within processes and equipment.
