JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary:

Under the indirect supervision of the Public Health Nursing Manager, performs skilled professional nursing work of considerable difficulty related to mandated public health programs and grants. May supervise others in the absence of the Nursing Manager.

Essential Job Functions/Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform medical clinical "hands on" tasks and services to clients according to the policies and procedures developed by the Nursing Manager and authorized standing orders
  • Navigate the Immunization Schedule and be proficient with intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections in both pediatric and adult clients
  • Provide guidance, education, and counseling to clients regarding medical care, treatment, effects of medications, and disease processes
  • Develops, implements, reviews, maintains, and evaluates plans of care
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients and fellow staff members
  • Perform weekly immunization clinics, both in-house and outlying areas
  • Case management services of family planning and tuberculosis clients, including communicable diseases
  • Perform HIV/STI testing and counseling, along with treatment and/or referral services
  • Assists in the quality assurance process
  • Participates and plans public health activities (fairs/expos, special immunization clinics, emergency preparedness drills)
  • Handles and stores vaccines
  • Conducts disease investigations
  • Maintain complete confidentiality and follow all HIPAA laws
  • Completes all training as required/directed
  • Assists clerical staff and other duties as needed/directed

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Current Arizona RN license in good standing
  • Drivers License
  • Comply with the required immunizations of nursing staff
  • Annual TB skin testing or screening
  • CPR Certificate

Required Knowledge, Skill & Ability:

  • Good general knowledge of the nursing theory and practice
  • Able to use initiative/judgement in unusual or emergency situations
  • Able to perform injections, finger-sticks, and phlebotomy competently and safely
  • Able to take direction and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Skilled in recognizing and identifying symptoms
  • Walk, bend, twist and turn, lift 40 lbs., stand 8 hours, and wear a respiratory mask more than one (1) hour
  • Ability to be deployed to remote areas of the county
  • Work in adverse conditions for extended periods of time
  • Must be proficient with vaccine management, storage, and handling
  • Weekend or overnight travel required

Preferred Knowledge, Skill & Ability:

  • Previous public health experience
  • One year of past medical and/or surgical experience, and/or a working knowledge of pediatrics, gynecology, and infection control
