Public Health Nurse Supervisor (PN 20014572)

What You'll Do:

Join the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) in a leadership role that advances school nursing and public health services across the state. If you have a strong public health experience and a passion for systems-level impact, this is an opportunity to shape statewide practice and policy. Duties include:

Program Leadership and Policy Development:

  • Provide statewide leadership for school nursing and school health programs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate public health policies and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including IDEA, 504 plans and Medicaid School Program requirements.
  • Review legislations and provide recommendations regarding school health impacts.
  • Develop position papers and policy recommendations based on data analysis.
  • Lead regular staff meetings to communicate goals and expectations.
  • Direct and oversee assigned staff; provide coaching, professional development and corrective action when necessary.

Data, Grants and Program Oversight:

  • Assist in development and management of the Maternal & Child Health Block Grant budget and related performance measures.
  • Analyze statewide survey data and translate findings into program improvements.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual program reports.
  • Oversee grants and contracts using ODH procurement processes.
  • Monitor program outcomes and ensure alignment with agency goals.

Training, Technical Assistance and Workforce Development:

  • Develop and deliver statewide trainings and technical assistance for school nursing personnel.
  • Create educational materials on medication administration, emergency guidelines, chronic disease management, and communicable disease response.
  • Lead development of a school nurse training program tailored to local health departments.
  • Provide consultation to school districts and administrators regarding health services and compliance requirements.

Collaboration and Representation:

  • Serve as agency liaison with different agencies, professional associations, and public health partners.
  • Represent ODH in statewide and national school health forums.
  • Facilitate inter-agency collaborations and convene stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

Option 1:

  • Current & valid license to practice professional nursing as Registered Nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723.03 of Revised Code.

  • 36 mos. relevant nursing exp. in community health/public health setting (e.g., home health, local health department, community health center, primary care clinic, rural health clinic).

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in nursing to include one course in community health nursing or public health nursing and training in research methodologies or equivalent.

  • 1 course or 3 mos. exp. in monitoring program budgets.

Or

Option 2:

  • 2 yrs. exp. as Public Health Nurse Specialist, 65541.

Or

Option 3:

  • 2 yrs. exp. as Medical Review Nurse, 65441.

Or

Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

ALL ANSWERS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORK EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION PROVIDED ON YOUR CIVIL SERVICE APPLICATION.
Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 14, Step 1 of the Exempt Pay Range Schedule ($39.22 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($41.46 per hour) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
