Please note: The approved salary for this position is $65,000.00 annually and is non-negotiable. This is a one-year term position with the chance to renew for a second year based on performance and the Council’s needs. The expected start date for this position is January 2026.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
As part of the Montgomery County Council’s successful full year Fellows Program for students who have completed a master’s degree in public policy or a related field, the Council is now seeking an outstanding public policy graduate to work as a Racial Equity and Social Justice Fellow beginning in mid-January 2026.
The Fellow will work as part of the Council’s non-partisan central staff team, providing objective research, analysis, and evaluation of policies, programs, and activities related to racial equity and social justice. They will have the opportunity to work directly with other Council staff, Councilmembers, and staff in the Executive Branch and other agencies of County Government.
Key elements of the Fellows Program:

The Fellow will join the Senior Racial Equity Manager working on a variety of issues related to racial equity and social justice and may include topics such as education, health, housing, transportation, land use, or public safety.
- 
The Fellow will prepare and present analyses at Council and Committee meetings.
- 
The Fellow will also be asked to work on longer-term research projects to be presented to the Council.
- 
Part of the role will involve becoming an expert on national trends in selected subjects matters and recommending innovative programs and policies for the consideration of the Council.
- 
The Fellow will be introduced to those in leadership roles throughout government.
- 
The Fellow will assist in the design and facilitation, and program management support, of the Council’s racial equity and social justice learning series.
The work will require performing analysis of complex policy and fiscal issues for the County Council on one or more policy areas over which it has oversight (e.g., health and human services, public safety, the environment, housing, and education). This specific position will focus on racial equity and social justice issues.
Responsibilities include working as a member of the Council’s analytical team to review legislative and budget programs, issues, and policies and develop recommendations for the Council. Specific analytical assignments for this position vary with the Council's needs and priorities.
This position requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, analytic ability using different tools and a desire to work as a team.

Education: A master’s degree in public administration, political science, business administration, economics, engineering, or other field related to the target position, obtained within thirty-six (36) months prior to the start date or obtained by June of the current year.
