Trident United Way is seeking a talented, self-directed PR & Communications Manager to super-charge our outward-facing Public Relations and communications efforts. This position will gather stories, create content, manage key publication projects and cultivate relationships with media outlets to show who we are as a brand and to amplify the work and outcomes of the organization. The PR & Communications Manager is responsible for communication efforts that inspire and motivate stakeholders to GIVE BACK, GET INVOLVED and TAKE ACTION toward the achievement of Trident United Way’s mission and bold community goal.
Public Relations and Media Management
- Create and execute a public relations plan to enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation.
- Serve as primary media contact for the organization, responding to inquiries coordinating interviews and crafting press releases, op-eds and media statements
- Promoting TUW investments, activities and annual events (ALICE data releases, State of our Families, Women United Luncheon, Days of Caring and other volunteer events) partnerships, grant funding and milestones
- Assist staff with preparation for interviews or live media appearances – refine messages, explain the process and procedures for the media opportunity and more
- Update and maintain current Media Contact list, track earned media coverage and track in CRM profiles
Brand Voice Management
- Oversee and/or support the maintenance of the TUW Internal Style Guide document with bi-annual review and updating.
- Oversee and/or support the maintenance of Custom GPTs for organizational guidelines with quarterly review and updating.
- Serve as the organization lead for electronic newsletters content curation and creation collaboration with PR Manger and Digital Media and Design Specialist are key to successful fulfillment of this essential function
- Create content calendar, write, edit and proofread article content for organizational electronic newsletters.
- General TUW, Advancement, Volunteer Engagement, etc.
- Collaborate with other departments for content ideas
- Using key engagement metrics to inform future contract content
- Oversee and/or support the development of communications materials in collaboration with the broader Communications Team, ensuring consistency with Trident United Way’s brand voice and messaging based on United Way Worldwide brand guidelines and membership agreement.
- Draft scripts and talking points and presentation decks for staff and presenters for community and donor events ensuring accuracy of data, consistency with brand voice and key messaging points.
Storytelling
- A strong writer who is not afraid to seek out a story resulting in concise and compelling content that engages the reader
- Interview families whose lives are improved by Trident United Way programs, volunteers, donors, agency and community partners
- Articulate TUW’s impact work using outcome data in compelling ways that inspire action and investment
- Capture and help tell stories by using photography, videography and/or imagery
- Serve as editor in-chief by coordinating with others to develop, copyedit and optimize content for appropriate placement
Publication/Collateral Management
- Gather information for project scope brief document, draft production timeline and implement the plan for organizational collateral materials and publications (Fundraising materials, Center for Strong Families collateral, Quarterly impact report, annual Impact Report, Community Goal Tracking Reports, Case for Support) (timing tbd)
- Manage the production of collateral materials and organization publications – work with internal staff or contractors, to layout, design, proofread, approve, coordinate printing and see project to completion
- Prioritize, schedule, respond to and perform work associated with Marketing Request Form tasks from internal clients
Internal Communications Support
- Work with staff to gather and edit submissions for Internal Updates Emails.
- Update the internal website The Loop with the latest content.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure consistent use of approved brand identity guidelines throughout organization and monitor application fidelity.
- Collaborate with other members of the Communications and Events staff, share resources and work product for coordinated messages.
- Coordinate assignments and assist in managing skilled volunteers and interns.
- Perform other activities as assigned by the Vice President of Communications & Volunteer Engagement
- Participates as a champion, project lead, and/or member of organizational development teams as required.
- Advanced degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible positions in results-based program management
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in a similar role
- 3 years of project management experience preferred.
- Proficiency with AP Style standards for media relations efforts.
- Experience with writing for fundraising and stewardship – using best practice principles.
- Proficiency with mass email marketing system such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required
- Excellent writing, editing, verbal, and presentation skills
- Have a passion for TUW’s mission and vision

- This job requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

- Routinely required to walk and occasionally travel by car.
This is a hybrid position. Primarily works in a climate controlled office-based setting. The opportunity to work remotely 2 days a week is available.
