Wolfson Children’s Hospital is hiring a Public Relations Specialist to support strategic communications, media relations, and storytelling initiatives that advance the mission and brand of Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to develop compelling content, support media engagement, and help bring the organization’s patient stories and community impact to life.
We are seeking a dynamic and creative communications professional with strong writing, media relations, and strategic storytelling experience. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional writer with the ability to translate complex medical information into engaging, audience-centered content while collaborating across teams to support organizational priorities and brand messaging.
Key responsibilities:
Media Relations
Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors and producers to support proactive storytelling and media opportunities.
Develop press releases, media pitches and statements.
Prepare spokespeople for interviews, including developing talking points, background materials and briefing documents.
Coordinate press interviews, media visits and press conferences.
Lead media analytics, tracking and reporting.
Monitor media coverage and support rapid response to emerging issues or sensitive topics.
Serve as a primary contact for media inquiries, coordinating timely and accurate responses with subject matter experts, including physicians and leaders. Includes serving on the 24/7 on-call schedule for media inquiries.
Writing and Content Development
Write and edit high-quality content that highlights Wolfson Children’s Hospital’s expertise, patient stories, community impact and brand mission.
Collaborate with subject matter experts, physicians and hospital staff to identify and develop story opportunities that reinforce key messages and priorities.
Translate complex medical and technical information into clear, accessible language for a range of audiences.
Uphold brand voice, tone and visual standards across all written materials.
Strategic Communications Support
Collaborate with marketing, social media, digital and internal communications teams to ensure alignment across channels.
Key Competencies:
Exceptional writer and storyteller with strong command of AP style and the ability to translate complex medical topics into relatable, engaging content.
Strong collaborator who works seamlessly across teams to ensure cohesive messaging.
Detail-oriented project coordinator who can manage multiple deadlines and channels effectively.
Media savvy, with a working understanding of how to craft content that performs well in earned, owned and shared media environments.
Passionate about mission-driven communication and storytelling that supports the mission of Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
5+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, journalism or a related communications role.
Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
Demonstrated experience working with reporters and coordinating media opportunities.
Strong news judgment and the ability to identify compelling story angles.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with executives, clinicians, researchers or other subject matter experts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in health care or another complex, mission-driven organization.
Familiarity with crisis communications and reputation management.
Experience developing media strategies that support broader organizational goals.
