Job Description and Duties

Communications Infrastructure and Support Sectoin (CISS) has a Public Safety Dispatcher opening located at the California Highway Patrol Headquarters. This position is an instructor position within the Communications Training Program, and under the direction of a Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor I.

The duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in the research, development, design, review, and implementation of training curriculum, as well as appropriate training materials, manuals, guides, and other resources for the Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course (PSDBC) Modules A and B, Communications Training Officer Course (CTOC), and Advanced Communications Training Officer Course (ACTOC)

  • Provide support for gathering Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials accreditation standards from the communications centers

  • Provide classroom instruction to communications personnel including, but not limited to cadets, guest users, allied agencies and field personnel as necessary

  • Participating in research and analysis of new training information

  • Participating in the evaluation of Communications Training Program (CTP), PSDBC, CTOC, and ACTOC effectiveness

  • Working at local communications centers to retain perishable skills

  • Work overtime at communications centers to supplement staffing, dependent upon command to command agreements

  • Two-to-four year commitment

Working Conditions

Tolerates a confined workspace with prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing, and performs effectively under stress and time constraints.

This position is considered an administrative assignment; consequently, only current CHP Public Safety Dispatcher will be considered for this assignment. The incumbent selected will be expected to meet the minimum 24 months duration of the assignment, and the normal maximum duration of 48 months in accordance with General Order (G. O.) 10.6, Field and Headquarters Assignments and Transfers Nonuniformed Employees. Extensions of Administrative Assignments may be granted.
