Public Service Assistant

Job Summary
Are you passionate about helping others and making a difference in a library environment? The Sunflower County Library System is currently seeking a Public Service Assistant. This is a fantastic chance to expand your skills through on-the-job training and gain valuable experience.

As a Public Service Assistant, you will have the chance to grow both personally and professionally. Your main duties will involve assisting patrons, librarians, and other staff members in a welcoming library environment. You will play a vital role in organizing, maintaining, and circulating a wide range of library materials, ensuring that everyone can easily access the resources they need. You will be able to use leadership skills and be responsible for the daily operations of the library.

To be considered for this position, we require a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree with one year of experience in public service and one year of experience supervising two or more employees. Previous work experience involving public interactions is highly valued, as it highlights your ability to provide excellent customer service. Basic computer skills are essential, although we provide training to enhance your proficiency. Accurate filing skills, both alphabetical and numerical, along with the ability to handle monetary transactions, are important for this role.

Responsibilities
· Responsible for the daily operations of the library.

· Works in other branches when assigned.

· May perform all clerical duties.

· Greet the public, assisting as needed using library resources and providing services.

· Instruct patrons on how to use the library’s computers, equipment, and other resources.

· Check materials in and out using Library’s computer database system.

· Assist in shelving in-coming materials and in preparing outgoing materials.

· Create and manage patron accounts.

· Collect and record fees or fines.

· Process and mail statements for overdue accounts.

· Ensure adequate supplies of library materials are available.

· Collect statistical data and prepare reports as required.

· Ensure a welcoming physical appearance for the library, taking into consideration the safety needs of clients.

· Ensure that library materials and information are organized correctly and according to the library’s organizational system.

· Perform maintenance or housekeeping duties as assigned.

· Demonstrate a clear understanding of library policies and operations interpreting the policies as required to other staff or patrons.

· Produces written material which is clear and concise; delivers effective presentations.

· Trains other staff.

· Assist other staff as required; in the librarian’s absence may serve as person in charge.

· Plan and participate in library events and programs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with one year of experience in public service and one year of experience in supervising two or more employees. Must be able to operate computer equipment with minimal training. Must be able to accurately file in alphabetical and numerical order. Must be able to accurately handle monetary transactions

Pay: $12.53 per hour
