Through our Signs and Markings team, we make ordinary, extraordinary! If you are the person we are looking for with three years of experience in construction, apply for our Public Works Crew Leader (Signs and Markings) position. This position will focus on leading a crew to install/replace pavement markings for school crosswalks, stop bars, chevrons, buttons, and raised pavement markers (RPM’s).
You will also lead a crew to do maintenance inside residential neighborhoods here in Plano. This hours for this position are Tuesday - Friday, 6:30am to 5:00pm, some weekend required.

Summary of Duties:Under general supervision, the Public Works Crew Leader leads the work activities of assigned staff. Engages in the operations, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure (streets, sidewalks, alleys, signalized equipment, pavement markings, signs, drainage systems, etc.).
Distinguishing Characteristics: The incumbent carries out adequate and practical methods to attain desired objectives as assigned by a supervisor and working within established policy. Methods require use of initiatives and resourcefulness in executing processes and procedures. Works under indirect supervision, conferring with supervisor on unusual matters.

Marginal Duties:
Typical Decisions: The incumbent must determine the materials required for a project, assignments for on-site field staff, most appropriate methods for completing the project/job assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: Knowledge of pavement markings, signalized intersections, and traffic safety.
Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; must be able to read, interpret and explain observations in infrastructure deterioration and preventative maintenance techniques; providing guidance, leadership, and assistance to assigned staff; operating, maneuvering, and controlling the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, or materials used; addressing and resolving customer complaints and concerns; performing basic mathematical calculations; reading and interpreting maps, charts, and schematics.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure (sidewalks, streets, alleys, screening walls, drainage systems, pavement markings, signs and/or signalized intersections). Lead experience is preferred.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications may be considered an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License, IMSA Certification Level I and II preferred.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings, streets, and facilities, to operate a motor vehicle and drive on surface streets; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, and to operate varied hand tools, power tools, and equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, climb and reach when completing maintenance and repairs. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, dust, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Public Works employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to pull stand-by duty and/or work extended hours, holidays and weekends assisting with workloads of assigned division or assisting other departments.
