Overview

PenFed is hiring a Puerto Rico Title Specialist to work onsite at our San Patricio Service Center located in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rico Title Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end process of title handling for collateralized loans, including pick up, delivery, recording, and resolution of title related issues. This role serves as a liaison between PenFed, local auto dealers, the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation Obras Públicas (DTOP), and other relevant parties to ensure proper title processing and compliance. The specialist also manages incoming and outgoing mail, maintains accurate logging and document digitization, and ensures secure storage and retention of titles under dual control procedures. In addition to core title responsibilities, the role supports the repossession team by handling skip lien filings, preparing auction packets for sold repossessed inventory, processing Route 66 cancellation claims, assisting in reconciling title logs and reports, and proactively addressing discrepancies to ensure timely and accurate resolution.

  • Pick up and deliver titles, contracts, and other credit union related documents for collateralized loans from automobile dealers, the DMV, and other businesses.
  • Act as the primary liaison between local auto dealers, DTOP, PenFed and local businesses to ensure proper title processing and resolution of related issues.
  • Interact with members, auto dealers, and government agencies to ensure successful title registration.
  • Deliver titles to the Puerto Rico Department of Transportation Obras Públicas (DTOP) for lien recording.
  • Resolve problems between PenFed and local dealers involving lien placement and other errors.
  • File and remove DMV Skip Liens with DTOP on assigned repossessed vehicles.
  • Complete auction packets for sold repossessed inventory, including bill of sale, condition report and photos, affidavits provided by title company, buyer identification or dealership license, and ensuring title and title company fees are pre-paid by buyer (validated by Manheim Caribbean).
  • Work with Financial Center staff in Puerto Rico, Collateral Control, and Collections to ensure timely resolution of title issues.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail and packages (FedEx, UPS, Airborne Express, Certified Mail) related to titles and other assigned functions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely logging of title related mail, packages, and case activity to ensure compliance and traceability.
  • Digitize incoming and outgoing title documentation using designated scanning equipment and systems.
  • Support the repossession team by assisting with repo title processes and tasks when needed.
  • Submit Route 66 cancellation requests in accordance with protection plan guidelines.
  • Acquire necessary documents and submit insurance claims directly with the provider.
  • Maintain organized storage and retention of titles, following dual control retention procedures where applicable.
  • Assist with reconciliation of title logs and reports, identifying discrepancies and resolving them promptly.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.


  • High school diploma required; Associate degree or equivalent work-related skills required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required in both English and Spanish.
  • Excellent customer service skills required with the ability to handle complex situations in a professional manner.
  • Clean driving record, reliable personal vehicle, and a valid driver's license required.
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience required.
  • At least one year (12 months) experience in the automotive industry involving title work with the Puerto Rico DMV or similar agency required.
  • Experience with collections or repossessed vehicle titles preferred.
  • Experience in the financial industry preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not supervise staff.

Licenses and Certifications

This position will not supervise employees.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
