Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Pulmonary Function Technician, you will play an essential role in evaluating and treating lung disorders through specialized diagnostic testing. You will perform standardized pulmonary function studies, educate patients on their respiratory health, and provide prescribed treatments to improve patient outcomes. Your role will include:

• Conducting specialized diagnostic studies by performing spirometry, lung volumes, Methacholine challenges, and exercise stress testing according to American Thoracic Society (ATS) standards.

• Managing equipment and technical accuracy by assembling, calibrating, and maintaining pulmonary function equipment while keeping detailed maintenance schedules and inventory records.

• Delivering clinical care and interventions by administering prescribed inhaled medications and medicinal gases, performing arterial blood gas draws, and interpreting results to aid in patient care.

• Coordinating and documenting services by partnering with physician offices and scheduling departments to provide timely patient care while ensuring all documentation and charging records are accurate.

• Supporting patients and the care team by educating families on pulmonary disorders, mentoring new staff members, and participating in quality improvement activities and policy development.

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

• Current licensure by the Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care.

• Registered or Certified Therapist status.

• Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program accredited by the AMA and the NBRC.

• Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential is recommended.
