Job Title: Purchase Analyst

Department: Purchase / Merchandising

Reports To: Purchase Manager / Head – Merchandising

Job Purpose:

The Purchase Analyst will be responsible for analyzing purchase trends, supplier performance, and stock requirements to ensure cost-effective and timely procurement of apparel merchandise. The role focuses on optimizing inventory levels, supporting buying decisions, and providing data-driven insights to improve purchasing efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze purchase data, vendor performance, and procurement costs to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports on purchase budgets, cost variances, and product category-wise spend.
  • Work closely with the merchandising and inventory teams to forecast demand and plan purchase quantities accordingly.
  • Track purchase orders, delivery schedules, and supplier lead times to ensure on-time stock availability.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate rates, and ensure adherence to quality and compliance standards.
  • Maintain updated records of vendors, pricing, and purchase agreements.
  • Identify slow-moving and fast-selling items to optimize purchase plans and reduce inventory holding costs.
  • Coordinate with the finance team for timely vendor payments and reconciliation.
  • Assist in developing purchase strategies aligned with sales trends and seasonal requirements.
  • Support management in developing data dashboards and MIS reports for decision-making.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems (SAP, Tally, or similar)
  • Knowledge of apparel category buying and vendor management
  • Attention to detail with strong data interpretation abilities
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with merchandising, warehouse, and finance teams

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related field
  • MBA or PG Diploma in Supply Chain / Retail Management preferred

Experience Required:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in purchase analysis, procurement, or merchandising within the retail apparel or fashion industry
