Purchase Engineer II
Who we are: We are a start-up based out of Bengaluru & Delhi NCR. We are engaged in development of next generation missions and technologies (NGM&T) towards future warfare needs of the Indian defence forces. It is undertaking research towards enhancing persistence and autonomy for unmanned vehicles and robotic swarms. NRT’s product development portfolio includes a solar power stratospheric high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) unmanned platform and an air/ground launched stand-off autonomous system.
Job Description: Buyer – Direct Procurement (Mechanical, Electronics & Electro-Mechanical)
Position Summary
The Buyer will be responsible for handling direct procurement of Mechanical, Electronics, and Electro-Mechanical components. This role involves supplier sourcing, RFQ management, negotiations, PO creation, cost optimization, and ensuring timely material availability. The Buyer will be Responsible for all sourcing and procurement activities related to direct materials and for maintaining strong vendor relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end procurement of Mechanical, Electronics, and Electro-Mechanical components.
- Identify, develop, and evaluate suppliers to meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Raise RFQs, collect quotations, compare offers, and prepare techno-commercial evaluations.
- Conduct negotiations on pricing, terms, delivery schedules, and long-term agreements.
- Create purchase orders in ERP/SAP and ensure alignment with internal policies.
- Work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Planning teams for specifications and approvals.
- Monitor supplier delivery performance and ensure on-time material availability.
- Resolve supplier issues related to quality, delays, shortages, or documentation.
- Support cost-reduction initiatives, supplier consolidation, and value-engineering activities.
- Maintain procurement records, contracts, and supplier communication in the ERP system.
- Ensure compliance with procurement guidelines, audit requirements, and governance processes.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong experience in direct procurement of Mechanical, Electronics, or Electro-Mechanical parts.
- Good knowledge of ERP/SAP procurement modules.
- Strong vendor management and supplier relationship-building skills.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical abilities.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing components, drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications.
- Ability to manage multiple sourcing activities simultaneously.
- Strong documentation, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Process-oriented, disciplined, and proactive in follow-up and escalation.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electronics/Electrical Engineering
- 6-8 years of experience in direct material procurement.
- Experience in industrial/manufacturing/electronic assemblies preferred.
