A Purchase Head (or Head of Purchasing/Procurement) leads a company's buying department, developing strategies to get the best value for goods/services, managing supplier deals, overseeing the team, controlling budgets, and minimizing supply chain risks to ensure operations run smoothly and cost-effectively. Key duties include setting strategy, negotiating contracts, managing vendors, monitoring inventory, and reporting to leadership, focusing on cost savings, quality, and reliability. Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement overall purchasing strategies, policies, and procedures to align with business goals.
- Supplier Management: Identify, vet, negotiate with, and manage relationships with vendors and suppliers for optimal pricing, quality, and delivery.
- Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and manage the purchasing team, including buyers and agents.
- Cost Control & Budgeting: Control the purchasing budget, analyze costs, find savings, and ensure cost-effective acquisitions.
- Process Optimization: Oversee the entire procurement cycle, from requisition to delivery, and ensure efficient operations.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, such as shortages or delays.
- Reporting: Prepare reports and metrics for senior management on purchasing performance.
