Position: Purchase Manager

Job Purpose
The Purchase Manager will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of raw materials, consumables, spares, and services required for sponge iron plant operations. The role focuses on ensuring cost efficiency, timely availability of materials, and strict compliance with quality, safety, and statutory standards to support uninterrupted plant operations.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & Vendor Management
- Manage procurement of raw materials including iron ore, coal, dolomite, limestone, refractories, ferro alloys, spares, and consumables.
- Develop, evaluate, and maintain strong vendor relationships; identify and onboard new suppliers as required.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, delivery schedules, and payment conditions to optimize procurement costs.
Planning & Coordination
- Ensure timely processing of purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and contracts as per production requirements.
- Coordinate closely with production, stores, logistics, and finance teams to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
- Coordinate with transporters and logistics partners for timely inward movement of materials.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain optimum stock to avoid shortages or excess inventory.
- Track market trends, price movements, and availability of sponge iron raw materials.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve procurement efficiency.
Compliance, Reporting & Systems
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, audit requirements, and statutory regulations.
- Prepare and present MIS reports related to procurement costs, vendor performance, lead times, and savings.
- Handle vendor performance evaluation, dispute resolution, and compliance-related issues.
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental norms across procurement activities.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
- MBA in Materials / Operations preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 8–12 years of experience in purchase/procurement within the sponge iron, steel, or ISPAT industry
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of raw material sourcing for iron & steel plants
- Proficiency in ERP / SAP, MS Excel, and reporting tools
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple stakeholders
Compensation
- Salary: Up to 45,000 per month
- Compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, and interview performance
