Job Summary

Zachry is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent to support our heavy civil construction operations. This position will be based at our shop facility in Cresson, TX and will focus on procuring parts, materials, and supplies necessary for construction equipment maintenance and repair. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in purchasing for heavy equipment, a thorough understanding of vendor management, and experience in fast-paced construction environments.

Essential Functions

  • Source, purchase, and manage inventory of parts, tools, and consumables for heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, product quality, and reliable delivery.
  • Review and analyze purchase requisitions to verify accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors to optimize costs and minimize downtime.
  • Track and expedite purchase orders to meet maintenance and operational needs.
  • Collaborate closely with equipment maintenance teams, field personnel, and project managers to forecast and plan material needs.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records within the company’s ERP or procurement system.
  • Resolve vendor issues related to delivery, invoicing, or product discrepancies.
  • Support continuous improvement of purchasing processes and cost control initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 3+ years of purchasing experience, specifically in heavy equipment or construction maintenance.
  • Familiarity with parts and components for dozers, excavators, haul trucks, cranes, and other heavy construction machinery.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor relationship management abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); Knowledge of Gear Flow purchasing software or experience with SAP a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Position will be based at the equipment maintenance facility in Cresson, TX.
  • Primarily office-based with regular interaction in the shop and yard areas.
  • May occasionally travel to vendors or project sites as needed.
