Purchasing Assistant

A Purchasing Assistant for a construction company supports the procurement of materials and services by monitoring stock, researching vendors and market trends, negotiating prices, and tracking orders to ensure timely delivery. Key responsibilities include managing the purchase order process, maintaining vendor relationships, ensuring the quality of delivered goods, and keeping internal records up-to-date. Essential qualifications for this role typically include experience in construction purchasing, knowledge of construction materials and equipment, strong organizational and communication skills, proficiency in MS Office, and familiarity with purchasing software. Key Responsibilities

  • Inventory Management:Monitor stock levels and identify the need for new materials or equipment.
  • Vendor Management:Research and evaluate potential vendors, maintain positive relationships, and negotiate prices and terms.
  • Order Processing:Create, track, and confirm purchase orders, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of materials to construction sites.
  • Quality Control:Liaise with warehouse staff to ensure delivered products and materials are in good condition.
  • Market Research:Conduct research on current pricing trends, new materials, and alternative solutions to find cost-saving opportunities.
  • Record Keeping:Maintain and update internal databases with vendor information, discounts, order details, and pricing.
  • Compliance:Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company procedures and relevant regulations.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Construction Industry Knowledge:Proven knowledge of common construction materials, equipment, and their specifications.
  • Negotiation and Communication:Strong skills to negotiate effectively with vendors and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organizational Skills:Excellent ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Technical Proficiency:Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, and familiarity with purchasing or supply chain software (e.g., Procurify, SpendMap).
  • Problem-Solving:Ability to identify and resolve issues related to purchasing and delivery.
