Position Description: JOB TITLE: Purchasing Assistant
REPORTS TO: Director of Supply Chain
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs various assigned duties in assisting the Purchasing Department, placing purchase orders or soliciting quotations and follows up on same to assure timely receipt. Responsible for placing orders with vendors under the guidance of the Director of Supply Chain. Checks invoices and receiving information with the purchase order for possible errors in pricing and quantity ordered.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare daily reports for OPEX.
Issues purchase orders and verify acknowledgement to avoid any discrepancies for inventory items, office supplies, MRO and other commodities.
Manage Direct Orders
Complete Supplier returns for rejected materials on a timely basis.
Reconcile credit for customer quality concerns for Direct Orders.
Follow up and expedite open and past due purchased items with vendors.
Create PO from work orders for outside services.
Communicate with vendors via the telephone, e-mail and in person.
May negotiate pricing with current suppliers.
Seeks out new suppliers/vendors as needed under the guidance of the Director of Supply.
Complete New Supplier forms as needed.
Request and manage Certificate of Origins
Request and manage Safety Data Sheets for purchased items.
All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 2 years general office experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Previous experience as a Purchasing Clerk or Purchasing Assistant a plus.
Must be able to operate a computer with accurate keyboarding skills of 40 WPM or better
Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
Detail oriented.
General Education Diploma.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours at a time.
Lifting Light Objects: Typically, under 20-30 lbs.
Reaching and Bending: Filing documents or accessing storage, may involve reaching overhead or bending at waist level
