Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for executing purchasing activities for direct materials (steel, components, fabrication parts) and indirect materials/services (tools, consumables, maintenance supplies) across multiple projects and locations. This role ensures timely procurement to support production schedules and project deadlines while maintaining cost efficiency and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Issue purchase orders for steel, fabricated components, and assembly parts.
  • Confirm pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules with suppliers throughout the entire process.
  • Purchase consumables, tools, safety equipment, and facility maintenance items.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure timely delivery of indirect materials.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding order status, delivery, and quality issues.
  • Maintain accurate supplier information and approved vendor lists.
  • Enter and track purchase orders in ERP systems.
  • Ensure proper documentation for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Work with project managers and production teams to align purchasing with schedules.
  • Assist in resolving material shortages or delays.
  • Review supplier contracts and negotiate terms.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience: 2+ years in purchasing or procurement within manufacturing or fabrication industries.
  • Familiarity with steel and fabrication materials preferred.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic negotiation and communication skills.
