Description of Work

Want to work at the World's Largest Zoo that saves wildlife life in wild places? The North Carolina Zoo seeks an enthusiastic Purchasing Specialist to join our team! The primary purpose of this position is to procure goods and services for the NC Zoo. This position is an integral member of a procurement team within the Management Services Section. The Management Services Section provides budget preparation and management, accounting, cash management, purchasing, warehousing, inventory control and computer service for the park. This section is responsible for interaction with budget, planning and analysis, Controller’s Office and purchases and services.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Procure goods and services and provide support to the Procurement Specialist. Procurement includes all supplies and materials necessary for operation of the NC Zoo - example: veterinary drugs, veterinary supplies, computer hardware/software, janitorial supplies, building materials, equipment rental, etc.

  • Maintains purchasing records and requisitions. Reconciles P-Cards with DNCR Procurement Office.
  • Coordinates Park deliveries with Warehouse, requests quotes from potential suppliers for competitive bids.
  • Responsible for procuring replacement and maintenance services and commodities to maintain life support systems to prevent loss of life of endangered aquatic life, flora and fauna, including medicine, food and veterinary medical equipment, specialty carpentry materials, painting materials, etc.

Recruitment Range: $37,872.00-$54,208.00

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

Demonstrated computer skills to work with a variety of programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

Demonstrated experience with data entry.

Demonstrated experience in procuring goods and services at a medium to large facility with a $10M+ budget.

Experience with State or Local purchasing policies and procedures.

Position/Physical Requirements

  • This position works Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm with a 1-hour meal period.

  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience applying purchasing policy and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience researching various goods and services.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
